Vulnerable Children

My last post to this blog was an update on the fire victims in Masi. We primarily helped these families through a ministry of All Nations called Vulnerable Children (VC). I (Julianna) have started working with them in a greater capacity over the past month. I am now the mentor of two impoverished families in Masi (VC families are families of orphans or nearly orphaned kids). I will work with them to plant communities of people following Jesus as well as to empower the adults in the family to be self-sustainable. Find out more about VC at vulnerablechildrensa.com.

Update on fire victims

I have been remiss in not giving you all an update recently about the fire victims. I visited the area of Masi affected by the fire the other day and it was amazing. Nearly all the shacks have been rebuilt, and you can hardly tell there was ever a fire (except for some blackened sheet metal being reused in shack walls). One of the All Nations ministries I am a part of, Vulnerable Children, helped several families recover from the fire. Some of you even gave money that helped pay for new things for them, or donated clothes that were given to these families. Here is the update from the Vulnerable Children team to their sponsors:

________________

Dear Valuable Ones,

We were not suprised, but oh so overwhelmed with so many of your responses to help the vulnerable children whose homes were burnt down. We walked through the rubble overwhelmed by how the families would ever rebuild, and recollect everyday neccessities that never come easy for them. We knew that as an integral part of this team, you “the sponsors” would respond. We would never assume that during these hard times you aren’t also struggling to make ends meet, but we knew that the Father’s heart for these children has always been so quick and immediate to provide for them. We love seeing His urgent and quick reply to the distress of the needy.

You became His arms, you were the shelter He describs himself as. You were His provision during disaster, that he promises His children. WE ARE HAPPY TO REPORT THAT because of your donations we were able to completely rebuild new shacks for 4 of our families and help get them functioning again. The shacks are constructed well as we had Dave Landshutt in charge. He was a builder in America before he became a missionary full time. They will be strong and leak proof. We were able to replace all the school uniforms that were burnt, as well as much needed additional clothing and shoes for every family member, not just your selected vulnerable child. We gave mattresses to the families, to sleep on. We were even able to provide an additional shack for a home of young girls who live on there own, who are not even a part of the program.

Proverbs 19:17
Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.

Thank you for your compassion, your response, your generousity and prayers. The children are clothed, fed, and sheltered due to your kindness! He will reward you for what you have done.

Love,
Bethany & Kalyn with the Vulnerable Children Team

Long-awaited prayer requests

I Skyped with my parents over the weekend and my dad said, "I feel like I haven't heard from you in a while. Did you send an e-mail update that I missed?" No, actually we've just been too busy to update anybody for about three weeks. So click here to see our most recent prayer update e-mail (written after my dad guilted me into posting something). It'll give you an idea of some of the dramatic things happening with our friends in Masi and our work at All Nations. We really value your prayers as you sow into what God is doing here!
